Alamo Fast Draw Episode 45 2:38-12:38
Alamo Fast Draw: Mississippi Marshal, I’m glad I got you on. I had
you on my list for a while and I was trying to see how things worked out. I know I didn’t calendarize anybody and I know it’s been a while since the show started and I wish I had you sooner, but you’re here now so that’s a good thing.
I’m gonna start off by asking you a question. I do know some things about you, but I don’t know a lot of things. So, I’ll just start off with quoting some people out there that don’t know a whole lot about you, so I’ll just get some questions done.
Mississippi Marshal: I let Jim handle my questions. He usually takes care of that stuff.
Alamo Fast Draw: [Laughs]
Mississippi Marshal: [Laughs, too]
Hi, Jim.
Jim Martin: Hello, there. I do have something to mention about you, though. We have more in common than just shooting.
Mississippi Marshal: Oh, really?
Jim: Yes, and it’s biscuits and gravy.
Mississippi Marshal: Okay. [Laughs]
Jim: I just heard a new thing about you being December in that new Cow Boy Calendar.
Mississippi Marshal: [Laughing loudly]
Jim: I really think you should be the centerfold for that calendar.
Mississippi Marshal: Well, I’ll tell you something about that. It takes the whole center form me.
Jim: Sitting in an old western table with your gun on the table and western stuff in the background, holding a big old plate of biscuits and gravy.
Mississippi Marshal: I gotta write that down Jim, I’m gonna do it just for you.
Everyone laughs.
Mississippi Marshal: I just love biscuits and gravy. I got it man. My wife, she says that she can do it.
Jim: Well, I love them just as much as you do, I tell you. I can never get enough of those things.
Mississippi Marshal: [laughs]
Alamo Fast Draw: Well, I think there’re a lot of people out there who agree on that one. We know that you like biscuits and gravy and eating the pig.
Mississippi Marshal: Well yeah being from Texas and all, where I’m from and you’re from, you know, biscuits are for eating and sometimes gravy is a beverage.
Alamo Fast Draw: [laughs]
Everyone laughs.
Jim: You’ll never guess what I had for breakfast this morning, would you?
Mississippi Marshal: Give me fifteen minutes. Let me think, uh…
Everyone laughs.
Mississippi Marshal: Biscuits and Gravy.
Jim: Boy, I tell you when I was done with that I had a great big ol’ thing in my stomach. It felt like I put weight in there.
Mississippi Marshal: I eat on Friday and I tell my wife I’m eating biscuits on Saturday and come in full.
Well, thank you Jim for MC and being on here. I’m really excited about what you’re doing. I’ve been really enjoying these shows and I’ve been logging in for a couple of months now and this is actually the first time I actually picked up the phone because I’m so shy and all. But, I really enjoy it.
Alamo Fast Draw: I think that I just stumbled on something at the right time and I had an interest in it and this is something I can do without traveling a lot and that’s why I started this show and I’ll just go on from there.
Hello Dave. I see Dave is over there in the Chat so, I’ll just go ahead and say hi to him and I’ll go over here to the other computer. Anyway… How did you get started, Marshal?
Mississippi Marshal: In Fast Draw?
Alamo Fast Draw: Yeah, in Fast Draw.
Mississippi Marshal: Fast Draw is pretty new to me. I’ve only been doing this thing for about four years. Before that I did a lot of cowboy action shooting and I a lot of police action shooting. I was a firearms instructor for a lot of years for correctional officers and law enforcement, so shooting has been kind of a part of my way of life. It’s been a key element.
And boy I tell you what… I tell people all the time. That life can be addictive. If I can get people to fit this into their life… If they can get the buzz like I did, this love can this sport can grow really, really quick. I really love Fast Draw. To me, that adrenaline rush on drawing on that light is pretty cool.
Alamo Fast Draw: Yeah, I think most of us here probably understand that fix.
Mississipi Marshal: Right. You know, my background is actually in corrections and law enforcement originally and then I did a little bit of writing for a Shooting Magazine and actually Chucky from Shooting Magazine introduced me to Cowboy Fast Draw. I was in the middle of a range one summer afternoon and boy I tell you what, since then, I’ve just been working away and enjoying it.
Alamo Fast Draw: Yeah, I heard about some of your past experiences. I was told about the experience you’ve had in the Correctional Department and the police thing but we won’t talk about that tonight. We’ll talk about that another time.
Mississippi Marshal: Yeah, and I heard you wrote. You did some writing and I heard you wrote pretty good.
Jim: I know I’ve probably read some of your articles, but I just don’t remember which ones they are. I guess I didn’t buy tickets to the old stuff.
Mississippi Marshal: I always like to do the old stuff. You know, there’re a lot of gun experts out there and I’m no gun expert. There’s John Patman and Jim Martin… You know just folks that know way more about guns than I do. I like the experience of shooting. So I write articles about a… maybe about a gun, but it would be more about the history of it more than casting and all that data and stuff. I leave that to the professionals.
Alamo Fast Draw: Yeah, I’d like to…uh. Well, I admire people that can write well and I’ve been doing this for a time. Writing is something I need to do and I never really enjoyed it, but I have been enjoying it much more than I did in high school or college. Although I didn’t go to college, I went to trade school.
And just to write those articles, I say… “I don’t know if that’s very good.” So, with that said, anybody who wants to go into my website and see those articles and make comments on them… Was I basically promoting my website?
Mississippi Marshal: Yeah. Good. I like that. I’ve been in there in the last couple of days reading some of that stuff. It’s pretty good.
Alamo Fast Draw: Well, some of that stuff is just for the show. There’re a couple of things on there that I wrote and there’s a couple of stuff on there from somebody else. And I thought that I had that work where it was showing the author, but it’s not showing the author, so I have to go back and fix some of the things I got on there. But, I did and update today, so maybe that update will fix it.
So, back to you. Maybe I’ll just let the writing to you.
Everyone laughs.
Mississippi Marshal: I’m just a country fellow from out in Idaho who likes Fast Draw. I just like the motion of it. We worked really hard the last couple of years trying to get Cowboy Fast Draw on the map. I’ve enjoyed playing a part in that. It’s a small part but, I’ve really had a good time with it and met a lot of really good people like a lot of the people that you have calling into the show. I probably know them, or met them or you know, have had some kind of business with them and I gotta tell you that there’s no better people than what’s in this business right now.
Alamo Fast Draw: Speaking of one of your Cowboy Fast Draw guys… W.C. Hall… I just noticed you’re on there. I’m going back and forth ‘cuz I’m having technical difficulties tonight, but I’m gonna go ahead. W.C. go ahead.
W.C.: Hi, ladies and gentleman.
Alamo Fast Draw: Marshal, I just heard that you really did some good things to try to help the clubs out. You go out there and try to help promote them and you go out there with them when you can, just as much as you can and I know why you came on tonight. We want to let some people know what’s going on. So, why don’t you take the opportunity now to tell those people what’s going on. In case we have more technical difficulties we can get that important stuff out of the way.
Mississippi Marshal: Okay. Sounds good. Well, I do really enjoy helping out clubs and creating new clubs. You know, I’ve heard several conversations with folks like Jim and Quick Cow and some folks up in California, you know, those guys and they tell me stories of when there were Fast Draw clubs in general all most in every little town around the country.
