Alamo Fast Draw Interveiws Gunfighter Ron Paul Duning

25 July, 2008 (23:22) | Fast Draw Talk Show

Alamo Fast Draw Interveiws Ron Paul Duning: On episode 17 of the Alamo Fast Draw show I interview the gunfighter Ron Paul Duning of the Ohio Fast Draw Association, Chairman Ohio Fast Draw Association, National Western Championship Titles such as Annie Oakley National Championship, Rolling Thunder Top Gun, Three Gun Western Style, Fastest Gun On Earth all three divisions, three time International Fast Draw Champion, Ohio Fast Draw Association year end championship, and current holder of over 80 national speed shooting records.
Ron Paul Duning: I'm thrilled to be on your show. I'm glad I heard about you and you gave me a call last week, we're out here east of the creek for the layman out there that's east of the Mississippi. We are based basically in Ohio is where the O.F.D.A. originate obviously with the name. It was back in the sixties that the association became active and it was from the Midwest Association. From there we grew well beyond the state of Ohio we're now made national organization we have shooters from all over the United States, East Coast to the West Coast, Canada and probably elsewhere that I have not heard about yet.
LLedslinger: I don't know a lot about the OFDA and I heard there were a lot of differences, could you give us the description of what some of those differences are?
Ron Paul Duning: Basically all fast draw is the same, it's timing yourself against a target, it's the nostalgia of the old west and movies and TV which is where fast draw actually originated from. The different associations which you have many of around the world, but there are only minor differences sometimes it's holsters, sometimes it's timing, penalty times, styles but again it all falls down to whether you've got timing equipment, you go to a contest you have a holster on you've got a six-gun, single action six-gun, we all use wax for safety purposes and it's draw fire and hit the target and the quickest amount of time, with whatever style you can devise out of the rules of the holsters and the rules of the guns. The Ohio Association a holster set of rules that would apply to everything from a SASS shooter, Cowboy Fast Draw shooter on up to a world shooter. The only difference in holsters the World Fast Draw Association has one other holster that we don't have which is a twisting holster that has not been adapted by the OFDA yet. Although that is a possibility in the future in a different class. Another association has a 1 1/2 second penalty for a miss which some people like other people realize it's not a difference. Most of the associations have a one second penalty. By the way talking with Greg out in California, the Cowboy Fast Draw Association they have shown quite a bit of interest and we've seen more and more of it on the side of the creek into the traditional or the original style shooting and I think we are picking up more and more members because of it. You know it's fun for the whole family, we have several family members that shoot with us. The director of the Buckeye Rangers which is our own local fast draw club outside of Cleveland Ohio our youngest member started when he was 13 he's now 15. We just shot the Internet shoot with great last week and I would not be surprised to see him running up their and the top 5 to 10 people he had an excellent run, he's pushing my times extremely hard and his name is Tyler Roberts you might want to keep an eye out for his name up there.
