27 July, 2008 (23:55) | Fast Draw Talk Show

Alamo Fast Draw show # 19 Excerpt:
LLedslinger: Jim did the contest go OK
Jim Martin: It went slicker than snot. I and plum warn to a frazzled it was great. I even had my family from California both of my daughters and my granddaughter and those guys I Gotta tell Ya. Hold Greg he set me up last night at the banquet thing. He got my daughters in their on a callusion thing they went out and got a whole bunch of things signed and brought me up and from the audience and presented to me, and I'm looking back there to worthy rear were all that people are sitting in my oldest daughter had her time sticking out ( raspberry ) like that I knew they set me up.
LLedslinger: How did they set you up?
Jim: Well I'm sitting there listening to all tributes and other stuff and it goes on and on then all of a sudden he comes up with this thing about a plaque. He gets me up in front of the whole audience and says that everybody there sign the back of this big plaque, and it was it was plum fool of names and asked me to come up their and get this plaque I knew my kids were in on it they had to be, they couldn't have done it without them. As I said before my daughter was back there with her tongue sticking out, she knew she took me she took me. My youngest daughter is cracking up my granddaughter is cracking up they did a number on me. Of course they did a number on other people to Wes ( Wes Flowers) and a few and other people. It was a good tribute to everybody except that I do have a problem accepting this kind of stuff. Ol'e Greg he gets up there and he's talking about this famous gunsmith and does this big pause they said well I'm waiting for for your remark and I said "horse hockey" and everybody laughed
LLedslinger: Jim this contest was initially a collaboration between you and Greg would you tell me about it.
Jim: Initially it was just between me and Greg we want to put on what I refer to as a retro fast draw shoot and do it the way we use to do it in the old days like we used to shoot the live ammo. Wes needed some help and everything so we decided to see if we could put one of these things on and see if we can raise some money for Wes and that's what we did.
LLedslinger: Greg have did ya'll come up come up with the the three target set up.
Greg Custodio: Well what we decided to do was what we actually set up six targets elimination style of each pair. Part of it was because Bob Crismon once we mentioned the idea to him he was overwhelmingly responsive in a positive way with wanting to help us and so I thought it was also a good opportunity for people to to get an introduction to his Showdown system and it was working perfectly into the concept of what Jim calls a retro shoot. Where time wasn't a factor shoot of it it was as close to a gunfight as you could really get because we are so programmed in traditional fast draw and even cowboy fast draw. Draw one gun shoot one shot holster so it really was something that all the shooters that came. I was surprised Steve you know 22 excellent shooters from all the around the United States came to support us. It made it pretty even nobody could possibly prepare for what they were about to come up to but it was impressive. You know you would think that the concept was was foreign and it is in modern day fast draw but it wasn't foreign when fastdraw started and the shooters adapted rapidly. I was expecting to see us go through sell more rounds before someone actually hit the target and I was also interested in seeing how people would approach the shooting stage. It was a heck of a shoot I was running the timer while there was no real time there it was interesting from my perspective because I was right there on the line so I could watch everybody as they adjusted. It was very competitive nobody complained either all we waited for was the blinking light that determined who the winner was and that's all we needed. The shoot moved amazingly smooth the shooters responded in a very positive manner and it was a real celebration of fast draw it was fun to see and I'd never seen it before either.I was quite interested in seeing how people would respond to it but I from one I sit it was surprisingly successful.
