Alamo Fast Draw episode 22 Nevada Smith
Alamo Fast Draw show episode 22
LLedslinger: Wes Flowers why did you pick Nevada Smith?
Wes Flowers: I have always been a Steve Mcqueen fan everything he's ever done I've always liked. I thought he was a great great actor and when you put Steve Mcqueen and Brian Keith together is just something else. Carl Mauldin was good at two don't get me wrong he played a really fantastic scared person. There was a lot of good stuff in the movie that I just really liked. Steve Mcqueen did almost all of his own stunts in the movie. The knife fight was excellent at the cattle corral as he was going from one shute to the next shute that was just fantastic artwork it really was from a person that love to do that kind of stuff and he did love to do it. My mentor in that movie was Brian Keith as far as being a gunfighter, gunsmith at the same time I guess that's one of the reasons I really liked him because of a gunsmith and I'm a gunfighter. Brian Keith was the man to have teach Nevada Smith-Max Sand which ever won the one called him Max Sand, Fich which ever but it was one of those deals it was just great. He played 1/2 Indian half white if I'm correct on that I believe I am in his Paris got killed at the very beginning, well you'd never really see that, it was flashbacks and stuff but the cinematography in the movie and the acting and also the stunt work was what I liked because I always worked in the background and it stunts for longtime. That kind of stuff is wonderful I think it was a well put together movie. When they were riding along and Brian Keith was throwing rocks in the air and he started shooting them and then finally start hitting the stuff, he finally gets good enough but you have to remember one thing Brian Keith taught him all the new not all what Brian Keith new. But yeah I love the movie and it's great Steve.
LLedslinger: Blackbird I take it you like this one to?
Blackbird: Sure it's a classic. Tom Horn would be another Steve Mcqueen classic(classic western movie) but I think Nevada Smith proved that he could do a first rate job in a big screen western by himself away from the rest of the Magnificent Seven.
LLedslinger: I remember seeing this movie when I was young for the first time, it was good but it seemed like it got better as I get older and got more and more into the westerns. I think I've seen this movie 20 or 30 times I lost track years ago but every time I see it, on I watch it. I don't have it in my library but I should.
LLedslinger: Blackbird it may not have been you that made the statement and I don't remember with the statement was. I was just using it to start a conversation.
Blackbird: Well gee I don't know if I'm good at priming a conversation but this was a Paramount picture and of course because it's a Paramount picture and because it's one of the classics you can almost bet that Rod Redwing was the gun coach and so he was and he arranged all the gunplay scenes including the lessons. I think in the first of them he had Steve Mcqueen firing and I think this is part of Redwings humor. Steve Mcqueen going to be Nevada Smith what kind of gun should he have, how about a Smith so he gave him a Smith. Now I don't know if he thought that way but it was the way he did things very often. He did something like that with Jean Arthur's gun and the Director George Stevens gun when he picked a Stevens favorite for the boys gun in Shane. Anyway you know the Smith and Wesson made the very good guns in the American series 1,2 and 3. I don't know if Steve's was 1,2 or 3 but I think it was one of those. It was a tip up or tip down which ever way you look at it. It was nice to see you don't see Smith and Wesson and westerns.
