We are pleased to announce creation of the “Cowboy Six Shooter Historical Foundation”.

Bob Graham, Steve Letsinger and others have been working on this venture for several months. While our plan was to officially announce before the end of the year, recent Hall of Fame creation interest at the Gunfighter Zone prompts this timely broadcast.

The Cowboy Six Shooter is the World wide recognized icon of the American Cowboy.  The words “Six Shooter” were even etched on some revolver barrels at the Colt factory.  In testimony to its lasting legacy, versions of the famous Colt Single Action Army revolver design are manufactured around the World today.

The Cowboy Six Shooter Historical Foundation is in the process of becoming a non-profit 501(c)3 State of Texas corporation dedicated to the preservation, public education and appreciation of America's Cowboy Six Shooter Heritage.  Start up costs has been paid for by donations coming from fellow shooters. Later, Foundation activities will be funded by donations, memberships, grants, sponsors and other tax-exempt contributions. The nucleus of the Foundation membership will be single action shooters representing such organizations as: WFDA, CFDA, SASS, OFDA, RGA, NRA, Mounted, Black Powder and other organized shooting sport activities. The web site: www.CowboySixShooter.com is now open and will grow rapidly.

In fulfilling its Mission the Foundation will help increase the number of Cowboy Six Shooter competitive events the general public may visit throughout each year. Using a large email address list of US Chambers of Commerce, the Foundation will match interested local clubs with local promoters of western theme events. The Foundation will encourage events that include the opportunity of visitors to gain hands-on Cowboy Six Shooter education, experience and enjoyment. These events may be a Cowboy Action Match, Fast Draw Contest, Western Reenactment or any other such activity. For those new clubs that have the need, target monitoring systems, backstops and other equipment will be loaned by the Foundation free (other than shipping) with no precondition rules attached. The clubs will decide what type of activity they will carry out. The Foundation will also provide low cost Event General Liability Insurance Certificates to the local clubs. All of these Foundation activities will help grow the number of gun sport clubs and individual club membership within existing and future associations and organizations.

The Cowboy Six Shooter Museum to be strategically located in the San Antonio area will offer collateral educational material in support of our Constitutional Second Amendment Rights.   Six Shooter Historic Era displays will feature: US Cavalry, Wild West, Television/Movies, Fast Draw, Cowboy Action, Gun Spinning and Showmanship, Lawmen, Period Clothing and others.  Visiting adults and youngsters may satisfy their heritage curiosity by touching and handling the historic American Cowboy Six Shooter.  Examples of Cowboy Six Shooter memorabilia and championship awards plus guns, leather and equipment used in actual sport shooting competition will be displayed.   At the Six Shooter Museum Indoor Wax Range adults and children may fire a real Six Shooter in a safe and controlled environment; many for the first time in their life. The range will be patterned after the famous Single Action Shooting Society™ Wax Championship Match held each year in the lobby of a major hotel in Las Vegas.  The Six Shooter Museum Hall of Fame area will honor legendary Six Shooter individuals. The organizations mentioned above and others will nominate Hall of Fame candidates.  The Six Shooter Museum Store will feature items of interest to children such as Cowboy/Cowgirl clothing, cap guns, books, media and learning videos.

We are pleased to report that Gunfighter Zone forums will be the initial conduit of Cowboy Six Shooter Heritage Foundation information and ideas. Of timely importance to this ambitious effort will be recruitment of six (6) Board of Director Members who will serve during 2009; they will join the initial Incorporators mentioned above. The Board positions will not be compensated for their service in any manner.

On Sunday night, November 9, 2008, 8:00 PM CST, please join the Alamo Fast Draw Podcast. (www.talkshoe.com). At the upper right hand corner of the opening screen in the box “keyword or call ID” enter 16056. Once there you may sign on. Steve will be the moderator. During the telephone or keyboard discussion (you may implement both simultaneously) you may nominate a person as candidate to join the Foundation Board of Directors. The Board of Director nominate period will continue on Sundays November 9 and November 16. If you prefer a private nomination message please email: Director@CowboySixShooter.com.

With so many outstanding people in our large Cowboy Six Shooter sports community it will be a challenging task to select the initial Board of Directors. After the selection has been made we will publish the names of all candidates and the individual qualifications we considered in our selection. This is an example as to how you may expect the Foundation to openly operate in the future.

We have not yet received confirmation from the IRS assuring donations to the Foundation will be tax deductible. A follow-on post will inform you of your donation options prior to and after this confirmation. If you have any questions you may call Bob Graham at (210) 946-2806 . You may send an email to Bob at: bg001@satx.rr.com and Steve at: lledslinger@gmail.com

Wow! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a completely different topic but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Great choice of colors!

I am looking for information and pictures about the Alamo frontier gunslingers club of San Antonio Texas circa 1958. I have some information regarding two members Bob Crismon and Jack Young and news paper articles of the time period. My Father (now diseased) Roy Estes was a member and one time president of this club in its beginning. If any one has any information of members, I would appreciate correspondence.
